    The main event is a panel discussion about “The Job of the Author to Help a Book Succeed.” Panel members will discuss establishing a writer’s platform, publishing choices – indie, traditional, or hybrid; creating a launch; ongoing work such as library visits and book tours; and keeping one’s online presence current to maintain visibility and reach out to audiences and generate sales.

    Then, a light lunch of sandwiches, salads, dessert and beverages will be served. After lunch, we will break into small discussions groups.

    Bradley Ferland will be our panel moderator. He is a radio talk-show host at WDEV-AM-FM in Waterbury. Brad is an avid supporter of the arts in Vermont, and of authors and publishing professionals around the region. He frequently interviews them on "Vermont Viewpoint.” 

    He is Executive Producer and Co-Director of the video series “Travels with Charlie,” also aired as a radio series on WDEV. He was an editorial page and news columnist for the St. Albans Messenger for five years, and he operates Ferland Marketing, providing consulting and guidance on business and political challenges in Vermont. He has two children—an adult son, Casey, and a teen-age daughter Chelsea who lives on his small farm in St. Albans Town where father and daughter breed and raise Finnsheep.

    Stephen Russell Payne is the author of seven books, including the award-winning novel, Cliff Walking. A fourth-generation Vermonter from St. Johnsbury,  he has written fiction, non-fiction and poetry for publications including Vermont Life magazine, Vermont Magazine, the Tufts ReviewThe Vermont Literary Review, Livin’ the Vermont Way magazine, and Route 7- Vermont Literary Journal. He holds undergraduate and Masters degrees in English from Tufts University, and graduated from UVM’s College of Medicine, where he has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery since 1988. Payne's forthcoming novel, Almost April, is multigenerational coming-of-age love story set along Lake Champlain in Addison County.

    Elizabeth Bluemle bookstore owner and publishing commentator will be the third member on the panel will be   Elizabeth owns The Flying Pig Bookstore in Shelburne, VT. She is the author of the Charlotte Zolotow Award-winning children’s book TAP TAP BOOM BOOM. Her other books include My Father the DogHOW DO YOU WOKKA-WOKKA and Dogs on the Bed. She has also been a commentator on publishing issues for national publications.

    Bill Schubart was born in New York City but grew up in Morrisville, Vermont. He is co-founder of Philo Records  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philo_Records_(folk) and in 1982, of Resolution, a fully integrated e-commerce services company.  Bill has served on and chaired boards for an extensive list of organizations including {but not limited to!} : Vermont College of Fine Arts; Vermont Folklife Center; Vermont Journalism Trust, dba VTDigger.org; Vermont Arts Council; Vermont Board of Libraries; Vermont Public Radio; UVM Medical Center; and Resolution, Inc. (co-founder, CEO and Chair).

    He writes and speaks extensively on the media, book publishing, and civic issues, has long been a commentator for Vermont Public Radio and VTDigger, and has spoken at industry and media events including Book Expo. Bill has authored a number of books, both fiction and non-fiction, and has served as publisher for other writers. www.schubart.com

    He is an author who writes about Vermont in fiction, humor, and opinion pieces. His books include Lila & Theron, The Priest, The Correctional Facility and The Lamoille Stories.


    Gerette Buglion is a Co-founder and Executive Director for the nonprofit Living Cult Free. She has authored her memoir An Everyday Cult, and also Writing to Reckon Journal - for Survivors of Spiritual, Religious and Cultic Abuse. Gerette wants to live in a world where cult leaders, narcissistic abusers, and manipulative marketing techniques are spotted, called out, and silenced, creating more opportunities for nourishing relationships to flourish. Her work as educator centers on liberation from coercive control and supporting the integrative power of writing for survivors of cultic relationships through Writing to Reckon™ programs. Gerette also facilitates the bi-annual writing symposium for survivors, Reclaiming Autonomy Through the Written Word.
