Title of Session: I Say the Sky: Poetry, Mindfulness, and the Power of Deep Listening

Description of Session: Poetry can be a means of waking up, of insight and orientation. In this workshop, teacher, yogi, meditator, and award-winning poet Nadia Colburn, PhD, RYT 200, will lead participants in an interactive experience exploring what happens when we bring silence and voice, meditation and poetry together. Sharing from her own experience and poetry, Nadia will read her poems and offer short meditations and writing prompts that will lead participants to access deeper levels of creativity and insight for the new year, times of transition--or any time.

This workshop will use poems from Nadia’s book, I Say the Sky, poems that sing as they search for meaning, greater acceptance, and beauty. In the words of poet Andrea Cohen, “The poems in I Say the Sky are both a hymn to what is lost and a hymnal for how to carry on.” Like the book, the workshop will be a journey to meet the self from personal and collective traumas, through the act of attention and appreciation, and come into a space of wonder.

Come enjoy poetry, and write your own work from whatever space you find yourself in. This workshop is designed for writers and meditators of all levels. Leave with practices to take home with you.
